A Concise History of Wine
Wine has enriched man’s existence since the Neolithic period. Archaeological evidence shows winemaking in the Caucasus from over 7000-ish years ago, and wine was probably made in Mesopotamia for just as long. By 3000 BC, wine was integrated into Egyptian life, religion, and commerce.
The Greeks were excessively fond of wine - as depicted in Greek art and literature - and they introduced wine to the Romans, who took it to new hedonistic heights at their Bacchanalia. In fact, wine was so important to both the Greeks and the Romans that they had wine gods in their religious pantheons, Dionysus and Bacchus respectively.
